How much will it cost to hire a personal injury lawyer?

A: In actuality it doesn't "cost" you anything to hire a personal injury attorney, at least not initially.  Most personal injury attorneys, including the lawyers at Terrell Law Firm work on a contigent fee basis.  This means that we do not take a fee UNLESS we get a recovery.  Even then the fee is taken from the proceeds of the insurance company's check.  So in a real sense you don't actuallly pay anything out of your own pocket. 

The fee is almost always expressed in terms of a percentage of the overalll recovery.  The exact percentage depends on the attorney.  It can range anywhere from 33 1/3% up to 50% with some variations on either end.

Be careful not to confuse fees and expenses.  In most instances contingent fee does not include expenses which are typically collected in addition to the fee amount.  The rules governing attorney conduct allow lawyers to "front" expenses on cases. 

I honestly believe that this is the best fee arrangement there is because, quite frankly, it insures the lawyer does his or her job.  It gives the lawyer an incentive to the best job possible because if he or she doesn't do a good job, then they don't get paid.  The better job they do, the better recovery they get for the client.
